What to do in an emergency

A few immediate safety steps for the most common emergencies — then call us straight away.

Suspected gas leak

Turn off the gas supply at the meter, open windows and doors, don't use switches or naked flames, and call us immediately.

Burst pipe or major leak

Shut off your stopcock immediately to stop the flow of water, then call us — the faster you act, the less damage caused.

No heating or hot water

Check your thermostat and boiler pressure first — if it's still not working, especially in cold weather, call us for priority attention.

Electrical fault or power loss

Check your consumer unit for a tripped switch. If the fault persists or you smell burning, switch off at the mains and call us.

If you smell gas strongly or suspect a serious gas emergency, also contact the National Gas Emergency Service on 0800 111 999 in addition to calling us.
